In the early years of the game (the late 1970s and the 1980s), matches were played around central Victoria before expanding into the eastern outskirts of greater Melbourne, including Monbulk and the Fiddlers' Convention at Yarra Junction.
The game also spread early on to the Numeralla Folk Festival and other festivals in New South Wales, and the Nariel Creek Folk Festival near Corryong in north-eastern Victoria.
The game has been played in ad-hoc matches at the National Folk Festival, Newstead Folk Festival, Burke and Wills Folk Festival and around Heathcote.
